AGM 2022
It was great to see people at this year's AGM. Thanks to the RHYC for hosting us for the event. We were delighted to welcome as well Richard Titchener from Sea Change Sailing Trust to tell us the history of the Blue Mermaid barge - we are looking forward to taking a group of project sailors on board her in September this year. The AGM was a chance to report on the 2021 season and

Welcoming the High Sheriff
We were delighted to welcome Edward Creasey - the High Sheriff of Suffolk - to our sailing session on Monday July 19th. He came along with great timing as this was the first week when we offered buddy sailing once again. He came down to see the work we do - much of which has been support by the grants given to us by Suffolk Community Foundation. The office of the High Sheriff is at

Sail on Ron Hollington
We are very sorry to learn of the death of one of our founder members and one of the first disabled sailors on the books, Ron Hollington. He sailed with the Project back in the late 1990s sailing the Challengers, before any Access dinghies were acquired. He was certainly a character and always determined and spirited. He would set a great example of always rigging his own boat and then towing it with his powered

Refreshing the compound ...
We have been busy in our enforced down time from sailing and many thanks to all the volunteers who have helped with work parties to prepare everything for this season. The boats have been cleaned, the shed and the clubhouse painted and cleaned and we now have a new larger compound. The long dry spell made it quite challenging to dig the new holes for the extended fence line, but fuelled by coffee and cake

Starting sailing again
At last - we can start sailing again. We started operations at Woolverstone on the Wheelyboat on May 4th and have been taking individuals and some groups out for sessions. They have all been delighted to get back on the water again and our instructors have enjoyed starting up again. We will be running some training courses at Alton Water during May and when we start fully at Alton Water Monday open sessions will look

AGM 2021
AGM report Our 2021 AGM was held on March 22nd. Like so many things for the last year, we were not able to meet in person, but it was great to see over 35 people on Zoom. The meeting was a chance for us to look at plans for starting sailing again during 2021 and to report on the various things which have been going on in the background during the last year.

A virtual champion
To fill the gap with not being able to sail, we have instead been offering 'virtual racing' for our sailors and volunteers using a system developed by World Sailing called Virtual Regatta. In December last year we ran a virtual club championship for the project and this was won by Rik Codling. Rik then went on to represent the Project in the Eastern Region RYA Championships at the end of February and after some

A copper-bottomed boat ....
We were delighted that Fox's were able to help us out with our new Sonar. Fox's prepared and Coppercoated our newly acquired 22' Sonar keelboat. As a dry sailed racing boat she had never been antifouled, so Coppercoat was recommended and applied in order to maintain a super smooth bottom finish whilst also offering excellent antifouling properties. This particular Sonar, called Chimera, was previously owned by local Paralympian, Hannah Stodel, who has competed in

A virtual 24 hours
2020 has been a strange year for sailing. With many on-the-water events cancelled due to COVID, a number of sailors have turned to the virtual world. Sadly, as a project, we have not been able to operate during the pandemic either. So, we have joined those getting their sailing kicks in the virtual world. Our sailors and volunteers have been out sailing weekly in the virtual world. Every Thursday evening, a team of volunteers and

Photo competition
Thanks to everyone for all the great entries to the photo competition we ran during June. The theme for the competition was 'water' and there were some great interpretations of that theme - thanks again to all those who entered. Enjoy the entries below :-)

Sailing in 2020
Well - we were all set up for a great season in 2020 - an exciting new boat, an extensively refurbished fleet and lots of plans for our 25th Anniversary as a charity and then ..... We are very sorry to have to let all our sailors know this, but, with safety of all our stakeholders the top priority, we really don't feel we can safely offer our sailing programme this season. The Project trustees
