WHAT IS THE WOOLVERSTONE PROJECT?

The Woolverstone Project provides sailing opportunities and tuition for those with disabilities with sailing throughout the year at Alton Water and during the summer months at Woolverstone on the River Orwell. We do this with the support of RYA Sailability, the Royal Harwich Yacht Club, the Royal Hospital School, Rotary and the many people and organisations who sponsor us financially.

Volunteers are on hand to take the sailors out on the water, help the sailors in and out of the dinghies and to provide refreshments during the sessions. The Woolverstone Project has been providing sailing opportunities for 20 years and with the help of our volunteers and sponsors we continue to run these sessions.

On the 11th of May Peter completed his challenging dinghy sail from the Orwell Bridge to Tower Bridge in aid of the Woolverstone Project and to raise awareness for disabled sailing. See here for details.

Listen to Peter’s interview about The Bridge 2 Bridge Challenge, his career as a baker and much more when he was a guest on BBC Radio Suffolk’s Leslie Dolphin show.

Have a look at our B2B page or Peter's blog here. You can also follow his TWITTER feed on the right of this page. Peter aims to complete the challenge on May 11th, sailing up the Thames from the Tideway Sailiability base. Peter is being supported along the way by Sailability and other groups.

If you would like to make a donation to the Woolverstone project, please either download a Gift Aid form here and send the form with your donation to our treasurer, or use mydonate. There you can donate on-line to the Woolverstone Project, and we also receive the Gift Aid money with your donation. On this website you can see examples of how the money we receive in donations is used.

We are an accredited RYA Training organisation and run some RYA courses and issue certificates. Using Access dinghies at Alton Water and the Hawk and Drascombe at Woolverstone, we are able to deliver the full syllabus for the Dinghy Level One and Two courses minus the capsize.
