Sailing with the Woolverstone Project

The Woolverstone Project is a members only sailing club. Governed by a board of Trustees to RYA Sailability guidelines as a charitable organisation for persons aged 8 and over with disabilities to experience sailing at one of our two centres, Alton Water and on the river Orwell from Woolverstone.

Please Note:

1, If personal assistants need to accompany a sailor, we will need to be notified of this well in advance. As this can only be done in limited circumstances and specific boats at Alton Water.

2, No more than 4 sailors in a group without prior arrangement.

3, During busy periods there may be a delay in getting boats on the water so please be prepared to wait. Or to secure a priority place please book online from our website)

Adult Group runs Mondays 10:00 to 13:00 mid March until early December.

Youth Group Thursdays 17:00 to 19:00 May until mid September.

  2. Please book online on our website (you need to be a member and logged in)
  3. Sailing Fees £8 payable at the session. Contactless (or correct amount if paying by cash until 2026)
  4. Clubhouse and changing rooms are open.
  5. Alton Water Sports Centre reception holds the Disabled Toilet Key.
  6. For Parking while attending a session: please take a ticket at the barrier and exchange at the project clubhouse for a One Time Exit pass to leave the site.
  7. Wheelchair retaining straps are to be left undone. At all times as you approach the water, on pontoons or in the boats. Please reverse wheelchairs down steep inclines to prevent a person being tipped out.

THE WHEELYBOAT IS ALMOST FULLY BOOKED FOR 2024

There are some limited spaces available. If you would like to go on the reserve list for any cancellations please email info@woolverstoneproject.org.uk.

Please Note:

1, Personal Assistants accompanying the sailor must be members for our insurance.

2, There may be several parties in each session.

3, Exclusive boat use (Wheelyboat £48, Sonar £24) by prior arrangement and subject to availability.

4, Cancellation/No Shows fees are applicable at two weeks before your session.

5, After 48hrs or If you are running late on the day please call the Operations manger on 07470 021 454.)

Sessions run from the first week of May through to the end of September.

  1. (Power) Wheelyboat Egret - Capacity is subject to the total weight of wheelchairs and a maximum numbers of persons Up to 8 persons, 2 crew with NO wheelchairs . Or 5 persons, 2 crew with max 3 manual wheelchairs, 2 medium or 1 large powered wheelchair.
  2. (Sail) Sonar Kip - Up to 4 persons + 2 crew.
  3. Tuesdays, Wednesday, and Thursdays. For regular sailors and groups by prior arrangement via email to info@woolverstoneproject.org.uk. Registration at 10:30 and 13:30. Any spaces can be booked online when available once the season is underway.
  4. Members Only (Sailors, Assistants and Volunteers £0p.a.).
  5. Sailing Fees £6 per person (i.e. sailors and assistants) Exclusive Use Egret £48 and Kip £24 payable at the session. Contactless (or correct amount if paying by cash until 2026).
  6. Neptune Sailing Centre, MDL Toilets (disability accessible), and Royal Harwich Yacht Club are Open.
  7. While attending your session with the Woolverstone project the Royal Harwich Yacht Club. (01473 780319) generously allow the use of their facilities. There is a visitors book in reception to sign in as it is a private members club.
